A Milestone for Primates

Today I am incredibly proud to announce that Primates has raised forty million dollars in Series B funding, led by Sequoia Capital with participation from existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Index Ventures. This funding round values Primates at four hundred and twenty million dollars, reflecting the tremendous growth and traction our platform has achieved over the past eighteen months. This is a milestone moment for our company, and I want to take this opportunity to share our journey so far, our vision for the future, and how this investment will help us get there.

When we founded Primates three years ago, we had a simple but ambitious vision: make enterprise-grade developer tools accessible to teams of every size. The developer tooling market was dominated by products that were either powerful but prohibitively complex and expensive, or simple but lacking the features and reliability that serious engineering teams require. We believed there was an enormous opportunity to build tools that combine enterprise-grade capabilities with the simplicity and developer experience of the best consumer products. This investment is a validation of that vision and the progress we have made in realizing it.

The numbers tell a compelling story. Since our Series A eighteen months ago, Primates has grown revenue by four hundred and fifty percent, expanded our customer base from two hundred to over two thousand organizations, and grown our team from thirty-five to one hundred and twenty employees across offices in San Francisco, London, and Singapore. Our platform now processes over four billion events per day, and our Net Promoter Score of seventy-two places us among the highest-rated developer tools in the industry. These metrics reflect not just our growth but the genuine value our platform delivers to the teams that rely on it every day.

How We Will Invest

This funding will be deployed across four strategic priorities that we believe will define the next phase of Primates' growth. Each priority is designed to strengthen our competitive position, expand our addressable market, and deepen the value we deliver to customers.

First, we will invest heavily in product development. Our engineering team will grow from sixty to one hundred engineers over the next twelve months, and we will accelerate development across all three of our core product lines: Analytics Platform, Workflow Automator, and API Connect. Specific product investments include advanced machine learning capabilities for our analytics engine, enterprise-grade security features for API Connect, and the AI-powered workflow suggestion engine that our customers have been requesting. We have an ambitious product roadmap for 2025, and this funding gives us the resources to execute on it aggressively.

Second, we will expand our global presence. While we have customers in over forty countries, our go-to-market operations have been concentrated in North America. This funding will support the establishment of dedicated sales and customer success teams in Europe and Asia-Pacific, localization of our platform for key markets, and the build-out of regional data center infrastructure to support customers with data residency requirements. We are particularly excited about the opportunities we see in the European market, where strong data protection regulations are driving demand for privacy-first developer tools.

Third, we will invest in our partner ecosystem. We are launching a formal partner program that will include technology partners, consulting partners, and reseller partners. The program will provide partners with access to our APIs, technical training, co-marketing resources, and revenue sharing opportunities. We believe that partnerships are essential for reaching the long tail of enterprise customers who rely on consulting firms and system integrators for their technology decisions, and we want to make it easy and rewarding for partners to build practices around the Primates platform.

Fourth, we will continue building an exceptional team. Great products are built by great people, and our ability to attract, develop, and retain outstanding talent is our most important competitive advantage. This funding allows us to offer competitive compensation packages, invest in professional development programs, and build a company culture that supports both high performance and personal well-being. We are currently hiring across engineering, product, design, sales, and customer success, and I encourage anyone who is excited about our mission to explore our open positions.

"Primates represents the next generation of developer tools—enterprise-grade capabilities delivered with consumer-grade simplicity. Their growth metrics are exceptional, and we are thrilled to partner with Sarah and the team for this next chapter." — Andrew Reed, Partner at Sequoia Capital

Our Vision for the Future

While this funding milestone is worth celebrating, it is important to put it in context. Funding is a means to an end, not an end in itself. The end we are working toward is a world where every software team—regardless of size, budget, or technical sophistication—has access to the tools they need to build, deploy, and operate software with confidence. We believe that developer tools should be democratized in the same way that cloud computing democratized infrastructure, and we are committed to playing a leading role in making that happen.

Looking ahead, we see several major trends that will shape our industry and our strategy. The convergence of AI and developer tools is creating opportunities to automate entire categories of engineering work that were previously manual. The shift toward platform engineering is driving demand for integrated toolchains that work together seamlessly. The growing importance of developer experience as a competitive differentiator is raising the bar for tool quality and usability. We are positioning Primates at the intersection of these trends, building a platform that leverages AI to make developers more productive while maintaining the control and transparency that enterprise teams require.

Thank You to Our Community

None of this would be possible without the incredible community of developers, engineering leaders, and organizations that have chosen to build with Primates. Your feedback drives our product roadmap, your success stories inspire our team, and your trust motivates us to raise the bar every day. I want to extend a special thank you to our early customers who took a chance on us when we were a scrappy startup with a beta product and a big vision. Your willingness to invest your time and trust in our platform during those early days was instrumental in getting us to where we are today.

I also want to thank our team. Building a company is hard. Building a company that serves demanding enterprise customers while maintaining a startup's pace of innovation is even harder. Our team has risen to every challenge with creativity, determination, and a genuine care for the developers we serve. This funding is a reflection of their hard work, and I am honored to be on this journey with them.

Finally, I want to thank our investors—both our new partners at Sequoia Capital and our existing investors at Andreessen Horowitz and Index Ventures. Their strategic guidance, network access, and operational support have been invaluable, and we are excited to have Sequoia's expertise in scaling developer tools companies as we enter our next growth phase. Here is what we are most excited about for the coming year:

  • Analytics Platform 3.0 with real-time machine learning models that surface insights proactively rather than waiting for users to query them, reducing time-to-insight by an order of magnitude.
  • API Connect Enterprise with advanced security features including automated vulnerability scanning, compliance monitoring, and zero-trust networking capabilities built directly into the API gateway.
  • Primates Community Edition, a free tier of our platform that provides full-featured access for individual developers and small teams, removing the barrier to entry for organizations just beginning their platform journey.

  2. Check out primates.dev/partners if you are interested in joining our partner program.
  3. Follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn for ongoing updates about our products and company.

The journey from founding to Series B has been extraordinary, but we believe the most exciting chapters are still ahead. We are building something special at Primates, and we are just getting started. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

This is an excellent deep dive! The architecture diagrams really helped me understand the overall flow. We have been considering a similar approach at our company and this gives us a great starting point.

Great article. I especially appreciated the section on error handling and fault tolerance. One question: have you considered using an event sourcing pattern for the audit trail instead of the approach described here?

We implemented something very similar last quarter after reading your previous post. The performance improvements were even better than expected. Looking forward to more content like this!
